Brewing with a Chemex: 8 Easy Steps

Brewing with a Chemex: 8 Easy Steps

The Chemex is one of my favourite methods of brewing coffee! It takes a little more time (so I usually reserve it for the weekends) but oh so worth it! There's nothing better than the wafting aroma of freshly brewed coffee that this brewing method creates. And the result? a smooth, flavourful, delicious cup of heaven!

Step 1: Unfold your paper filter and place on top of the pour over

Step 2: Bring water to a boil

Step 3: While water is heating, grind beans to a medium-course grind

Step 4: Fully saturate the clean filter with some of the boiled water allowing the water to drip through and heat the vessel. Discard the water through the pour spout.

Step 5: Pour ground coffee into the wet filter

Step 6: Slowly pour heated water into the centre of the filter working your way outward in a circular motion. Stop pouring when you have added twice the amount of water as grinds. You will notice the grinds will expand and "bloom." Let sit for 30 seconds.

Step 7: Add about 200 grams of water over the grinds in the same circular motion. Let the water drip through until there's only an inch of water left in the filter and repeat the step again

Step 8: Once water has filtered through entirely, remove the filter and enjoy!
