Coffee is a beloved part of many of our daily routines. In fact, coffee is the second-most traded commodity in the world! According to the ICO (International Coffee Organization) world consumption in 2019 is estimated at 165.18 million bags of coffee. After diving into the topic of coffee a little more, it’s no wonder why! Besides the fact that coffee has the magical powers of making us functional human beings each day, it also has a myriad of health benefits!
Reason 1: Multiple studies (linked below) suggest that coffee has considerable ability to lower risk of Type 2 Diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease colorectal cancer risk and more. It’s also been linked to lowering muscle pain and depression.
Reason 3: The caffeine in coffee can also speed up metabolism and fat-burning. In addition to giving your metabolism a kick, the beverage also contains the helpful weight loss aid Chlorogenic acid - capable of slowing down the absorption of carbohydrates and breaking down fat. Black coffee is also one of the lowest-calorie drink choices around.
So we know that drinking coffee can deliver many benefits, but how should we drink it?
Well, if you want to reap all the benefits coffee has to offer I would suggest skipping the milk and sugar! Researchers out of Brazil found that strong black coffee kills the bacteria on teeth that leads to tooth decay. Adding milk or sugar to coffee negates this benefit.
